About GDSub Team

We are the team that focused on Google's developer-related resources localization, yet another community-driven interests virtual group around the globe. The Chinese name "谷创" means innovations and entrepreneurship using Google technology.

Content Release Process

Internal Review: After translation tasks are completed, the content is first released through community channels for cross-review by our subtitle translators. They provide feedback and suggestions for improvements to enhance the quality of the content.

Community Review: After optimization, the content is initially released to the reader community for learning and exchange. We encourage community members to produce practical articles like "Pitfall Guides" and engage in internal discussions and further optimizations.

Official Release: After being reviewed, validated, and even "troubleshooted" by the community, the content is published through the subtitle team's public channels. The releases also include tutorial articles produced by community members, sharing their experiences and insights.

How to join

Originally, our main activity involved producing Chinese subtitles for Google Developers' official YouTube channels. However, as this has transitioned to a community-run project, we can no longer contribute in that manner. We are issuing a call to Googlers—if you are willing to serve as our new PoC, please visit go/goofan to get in touch.

• February 23, 2013 - Project Initiation: Following the National China Google Developer Community Summit, a Chinese video localization project was launched to address challenges such as internet and language barriers. This project also aimed to foster national community engagement with the Google Developer Live (GDL) video platform.

• December 19, 2014 - Official Establishment: We officially submitted 10 videos with Chinese bilingual subtitles, including four from the Game On! series and various DevBytes / DesignBytes series videos.

• January 15, 2015: In support of the global Study Jam's learning activities, the subtitle team organized translations for the Udacity course "Developing Android Apps" used in that year's SJ event.

• February 17, 2015: The Google Developers for Chinese language Channel was officially launched, featuring all videos with Chinese subtitles contributed by the team, contains the talks from events, educational series, best practices, tips, and the latest updates across our products and platforms. Content is available in Mandarin, with captions in Simplified Chinese. like the Android Performance Patterns series by Colt McAnlis, Route 85, Coding TensorFlow, Playtime, Google Developer Days 2017, etc.

• August 2015 - Rebranding and Prioritization: Luke, the team leader, joined Google DevRel China team and took over maintaining the Google Developers for Chinese language Channel. The team was officially renamed "GDSub", and translating the annual Google I/O conferences became our highest priority, we localized I/O 2016 all Videos, and 2017 I/O Keynote.

• March 2016: The Google China Study Jams for beginners in Android was officially launched, helping over 4000 beginners in 106 study groups upload 142 apps to the Google Play Store. The 2017 SJ project included advanced topics like Firebase.

• June 2016 - Team Summit: GDSub team members were invited to Google I/O, where an official call for translation volunteers was made.

• October 2017: We began publishing TensorFlow-related content, mainly the Cloud AI Adventure series of videos and articles, which were also published on Zhihu and the official TensorFlow WeChat account.

• May 2018: TensorFlow-related videos uploaded to the official Google Bilibili account by the team.

• August 2018 - Project Handover to the Community: The new manager team decide to making this project to community-running, based on their lack understand to the local market.

• March 2020: The tf.wiki online community and the TF Codelabs site support by the team, were launched.

• August 2020 - New Project Launch: The forum 101.dev was launched.

• December 2021 - Old Project Restoration: The Google form reverse proxy service at gdgdocs.org was restored.

• May 2022: Planning began for the new version of the subtitle team's website.

• January 29, 2023: As one of the subtitle team's past projects, Goofan.com was officially launched.
